When someone mentions Argentina, gauchos, great wine – specifically Malbec – and meat are the things that come to mind. Lucky for us, we can get a slice of this South American country without traveling 19 hours and 35 minutes.
Gaucho Dubai, located at DIFC, is a place you definitely a date night venue. It’s sophisticated enough for a first date, with its floor-to-ceiling wine vault, dim lighting and cowhide fabrics, and equally great for those who are months or even years into their relationship – where you can order plenty of food and not get that judgmental look indicating ‘how much can he/she eat’?
To begin our date night, we were recommended the hot trio of empanadas with beef, provolone and onions and creamed corn. The beef is ridiculously tender, while the corn is hot, creamy and indulgent. Up next was a plate of braised beef back ribs – if you choose to have one appetizer, please make sure you go for this. It’s Ah-mazing!!! Each melt-in-your-mouth rib is doused in a moreish hoisin and chilli sticky orange sauce, and topped with sesame seeds, fresh orange and pickled jalapenos for texture and that spicy kick. Love lobster? The tacos here are worth trying out too. The ingredients are fresh and simple, yet each bite is extremely juicy.
Mr.T Raf and I are meat snobs, we won’t even deny it. We understand people eat steak/meat well done, however, we often say that when it isn’t eaten medium or medium-rare, you miss out on the flavour of the meat. And it’s true – ask any chef! In any case, those who love to eat their meat well done will love the churrasco de lomo (spiral cut lean and tender filet marinated for 48 hours in garlic, parsley and olive oil) as it can be eaten at this temperature – as told to us by the staff. We had ours medium-rare and enjoyed it with the chimichurri, peppercorn sauce drizzled over, and a side of the humita saltena (Creamed corn mixed with mozzarella and basil, pictured here), oven-baked gnocchi that’s as fluffy as a marshmallow, in a black truffle and cheese, or sweet potato fries.
It’s dessert time, and you don’t want to have major Fomo. We highly recommend the velvety dulce de leche cheesecake topped with toasted marshmallow – perfect end to a meal, especially during winter.
The Bill: Approximately Dhs600 for two.
#NoMoreFomo tip: Gaucho Dubai offers a Taste of Argentina sharing menu priced from Dhs455 per person. They have recently launched a Friday Night Tapas Brunch on the terrace too. Contact +9714 422 7898 or visit gauchorestaurants.com
