So you’ve just heard December 2nd and 3rd is off, bringing your weekend up to four days. YAY! That’s good enough for a trip from Dubai to Georgia, Kenya, Azerbaijan, India, Lebanon and, well, the list goes on.
You’ve chosen your destination, booked your flights and hotels, packed your bags, and you are all set to travel. Except, you’re missing something. It’s actually the most important element of your trip. A necessity. It’s something we tend to remember while on our trip, or when waiting for our luggage hoping it comes out on the belt. Any guesses yet?
It’s Travel Insurance!
Yes, you think you don’t need travel insurance, but you absolutely do! I’ve had plenty of panic attacks on trips, and after hearing stories from a friend and my brother, it’s something I make sure I don’t forget to buy.
Stories here in brief, because who has time to read nowadays? These are interesting, we promise!
My brother (Jaxx) got mugged in Naples, Italy, and they took literally everything from his van, when he stopped over at a gas station café. His passport and suitcase were gone in a matter of minutes and all he was left with was the pair of peach-coloured shorts he was wearing *giggles*, a tee, and wallet. He immediately called the travel insurance company, after the cops of course, and they told him he could shop for a certain amount as well as put in a claim for all the products that were stolen. He got the money back after a few weeks, around Dhs10,000.
Story of my friend, Odilaine. She was at Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris, waiting for her suitcase to come out on the belt, and guess what? It didn’t. Imagine packing those gorgeous coats, boots, your makeup, cosmetics, everything, and it doesn’t arrive in time for you to wear it. She decided to give her insurance company a call, and again, they told her she could shop for a certain amount. She obviously had to send in documents from the airline declaring there was an issue and she didn’t receive her suitcase. After three days, her luggage arrived. And while she was happy that it finally did, she was also secretly happy she got to buy an amazing leather bag in Paris with the money from the insurance – she chose to spend it on a good quality product and borrowed clothes from the friend she was travelling with – smart eh!?
Moral of the story. Buy insurance! I used to stop by one of the travel agencies at the mall, Dnata at Mall of the Emirates in specific, until I forgot to do it one day and looked online. It’s actually MUCH CHEAPER online, as are most things. I get mine from World Nomads because apart from two options to choose from, they allow you to extend your insurance while on the trip and email your documents within a matter of seconds. It covers everything from lost luggage to injuries, dental, healthcare, delayed flights, hijacking, and so on.
Try it below, it’s easy peasy! Literally takes less than 3 minutes – I timed it 🙂
