Quick family-friendly destinations to escape to

UAE holidays 2018 is probably your top search on Google. We wait for that time of year to travel with the family. That said, family getaways can be quite tricky to plan. Children need to be entertained while the adults unwind. Here’s a bit of inspiration for long weekend escapes from the UAE, and a fun time with the kids. Are you ready to travel with your family?
Flight duration: 4 hours and 40 minutes
If you’re on the hunt for a budget-friendly destination for the family, this is it. Sri Lanka ticks all the boxes – food, animal sighting, temple visits, affordable accommodation, and beaches. Your little ones can head to Weligama to learn surfing, watch turtles in their own habitat in Beruwela (Tropical Villas Beach Hotel), or head to the Rekawa Turtle observation camp. To make the experience all the more authentic, stop by street-side stalls for coconut water, indulge in kothu roti (flatbread shredded and mixed with chicken or veggies), and feast on fresh seasonal fruit.
Flight duration: 6 hours and 47 minutes
There’s only one place the kids will want to go this winter – especially since tis’ the season to be jolly. Let your children deepen their faith in Santa with a trip to this gorgeous region, and Santa’s “home”, in Finland’s northernmost region. While not a long weekend escape, little ones – and adults – will love a trip to the magical Santa Claus Village, sleigh rides and copious amounts of hot chocolate to keep warm. The capital Rovaniemi is the gateway to this mythical town and offers plenty for skiers
Flight duration: 7 hours and 20 minutes
Gardens by the bay, Singapore Botanic Gardens, Singapore Zoo, Resorts World Sentosa and Universal Studios – that’s just a few of the attractions on the island. And since they have one of the best public transportation systems in the world, jumping on a metro or cable-car will all be a tad bit exciting for the kids. Make sure to book your attraction passes ahead to avoid queues.
Flight duration: 4 hours and 47 minutes
The island archipelago has plenty for children on most islands. However, we highly recommend The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, winners of the Indian Ocean’s Leading Family Resort 2017. The family-friendly resort needs to be accessed by a sea-plane and features a kids club with a pool (Komas Kidz Paradise)  family pool, babysitting services, board games, PlayStation, a library and fun activities including banana boat rides. While the little ones are at play, adults can bike around the resort, play a game of giant chess, enjoy a culinary class – Maldivian curry, anyone!? – sunset champagne cruise, and a visit to the tranquil Spa by Thalgo which showcases a koi fish pond, Ayurveda treatments and yoga and meditation classes. Try the couple’s massage for a relaxing and reviving experience.
