It’s packed with amino acids and collagen; the gelatin aids digestion by healing your gut which in turn strengthens your immunity, and the amino acids help with inflammation. It also strengthens your bones and muscle tissue. You can Google all of this! RECIPE • 1 kg beef bones (preferably a mix of marrow bones with a little meat) • 3 medium carrots, cut in half • 1 medium onion, quartered • ½ garlic head, cut in half • ½ red pepper • 2 celery stalks, cut into 2-inch pieces (optional, but I ran out of stock) • 2 bay leaves • 2 tbsp black peppercorns • 1 tbsp cider vinegar – Clean the bones well and roast for 30-40 minutes at 180C. You want it to become brown and beautiful. – Roast the veggies for 10 mins at 180C – it needs to sweat a little. – Add everything to a stockpot or Dutch oven and fill with water. – Simmer on low heat for 2 hours or longer. Some people keep it for eight hours on the stovetop! – Remove the bones and veggies and enjoy. I like to have a glass of bone broth either with lunch or dinner. Make sure you sip carefully when you warm it up, as the gelatin holds heat and you could risk burning your tongue. It’s happened to me! 🙂 You can also make this in a slow cooker. The method below is for a stovepot.

 

| RECIPE |

Makes 3-4 cups

  • 1 kg beef bones (preferably a mix of marrow bones with a little meat)
  • 3 medium carrots, cut in half
  • 1 medium onion, quartered
